With heavy hearts and deep sorrow, we remember the life and legacy of Alhaji Abu Atiku Maidabino, SArkin Fulani Dangin Katsina, District Head of Yantumaki, who was brutally murdered by suspected bandits at his residence in Yantumaki, Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina state on the 1st of June, 2020.
His untimely passing shook not just his immediate community, but resonated far and wide across the nation—a painful reminder of the insecurity that continues to claim innocent lives.
Alhaji Abu Atiku Maidabino was more than a name. He was a respected elder, a pillar of wisdom, and a symbol of dignity and service. Known for his humility, generosity, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of his people, he dedicated his life to fostering peace, supporting community development, and upholding traditional values.
In his dealings, he exemplified the true spirit of leadership: accessible, fair, and deeply concerned with justice and equity. His home was open to all—young and old, rich and poor. To many, he was a father figure, a counsellor, and a beacon of hope. His murder was not only a personal tragedy for his family but a loss to all who cherished the values he lived by.
In the final moments of his life, the Late Alhaji Abu Atiku Maidabino displayed remarkable courage, making a desperate attempt to dodge the bullets of his killers. The living room window—once a quiet and familiar part of his home—now bears a haunting reminder of that dark and tragic day. A large, gaping hole still remains in the glass, etched by violence and forever sealed in memory.
It stands not only as physical evidence of the horror that unfolded, but as a deeply personal wound—one that remains indelible in our hearts. That shattered windowpane remained a silent witness to his final struggle, a symbol of the pain we carry, and a lasting reminder of a life taken too soon, yet never forgotten.
We mourn not just his death, but the silence it leaves behind—a voice of reason silenced too soon. We pray that justice will be done, and that his memory will inspire a renewed commitment to peace and security in Katsina and beyond.
To his family, and the entire people of his community we once again extend our deepest condolences. May Allah (SWT) grant him the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss. And to our dear late Alhaji Abu Atiku Maidabino, we pray that Allah SWA forgives his shortcomings, accepts his good deeds and shahada and grants him Aljannatul Firdaus. Ameen.
Your legacy lives on—in the lives you touched, the wisdom you shared, and the love you gave.
Rest in peace, Baba Abu Maidabino. You will never be forgotten.
